BoHo Timber Designs was created to keep the legacy and art of traditional carpentry techniques alive. We take great pride in the quality of our work and ensure that we enhance it as best we can by respecting the way nature shaped the grain and texture of the wood.

We prefer to use sustainable timber that has been grown and harvested responsibly, with the only compromise being when recycled timber is used. Recycled Timber is just as functional as new timber after it has been milled and finished, and it often has a charm and rustic appearance that newer timber does not. Recycled timber is also the environmentally friendliest form of timber production.

Where possible, we use “Days of Old’ traditional joinery techniques, which is the classic way of connecting timbers in post & beam and timber frame structures. It is an elegant and beautiful style of construction that relies on the timbers themselves to support one another which are then secured with hardwood pegs. But it is a fact of life that this technique is labour intensive and therefore more expensive, so we also use screws, glues, resins etc in certain circumstances or on request.

What is recycled or reclaimed timber?

Recycled timber or reclaimed timber is timber that has been repurposed. There are countless abandoned or demolished building, unused rail yards, run-down wharves and bridges and derelict factories that are overflowing with timber that is still perfectly usable. This timber may easily be repurposed and, in the process, will save the life of another tree being harvested. It is just as functional as new timber once it has been re-milled or re-finished. What many designers and makers have found, and hand crafted makers are no different, is that recycled timber has a rustic charm that cannot quite be replicated.
